ALBUM & SINGLE COVER DESIGNS

      CATHELIJN GENDERLOOS                    2025

For Cathelijn Genderloos’ first official album release, I had the honor of designing the full visual direction, including the album cover and four connected single covers. She requested an illustrative approach, and after listening to the tracks, I felt the entire album carried a warm, melancholic tone a feeling she described herself as whisky and wine at night.

Cathelijn shared her admiration for Van Gogh’s “Café Terrace at Night”, wanting to capture a similar atmosphere for her own release. For the album cover, I created my own interpretation of that scene: an abstract, moody night terrace with Cathelijn seated at the bar, looking out toward the street. I avoided clean lines or rigid structures; instead, I kept the forms slightly muddied and expressive to mirror the album’s emotional landscape like a hazy, comforting night of drinking and reflection.

To connect the singles visually to the album, I pulled key elements from the final bar scene small details, objects, colors and embedded them into each single cover as subtle Easter eggs. When the album was eventually revealed, all the singles fit together, forming a cohesive visual universe around her music.
